  • Prism Reading Level 1 has 8 units to develop vocabulary, academic, and critical thinking skills. Students experience topics through fascinating readings in a wide variety of genres and formats to become familiar with material they might face in or outside the college classroom. Each book includes a single-use code to access the Online Workbook that has one new reading per unit, extra practice to further improve reading, vocabulary, and language development. Other resources include videos and recordings of readings. Activities have automated feedback to help with learner autonomy, and for teachers to spend less time grading and more time teaching.
Prism Reading is a five-level reading course to help learners develop a range of academic and critical thinking skills to build confidence and prepare for college courses.

Captivating readings, videos, academic reading skills, strategies, and development of critical thinking skills in Prism Reading help students become well-rounded thinkers and build confidence to succeed in and outside the classroom.

    How Prism Reading works
Prism Reading has been developed in collaboraton with teachers like you, to ensure the content meets students' language and academic needs. Lessons enables learners to develop the academic skills and language that will lead them to succeed in and outside their college and university classes.

    1. Reading
    Receptive, language, and analytical skills.
Students improve their reading skills through a sequence of proven activities. First, they study key vocabulary to prepare for each reading and to develop academic reading skills. Then they work on synthesis exercises in the reading that prepare students for college classrooms. Language Development sections teach vocabulary, collocations, and language structure.

    2. More reading
    Critical thinking and collaboration.
Multiple critical thinking activities prepare students for exercises that focus on academic reading skills. Collaboration activities help develop higher-level thinking skills, oral communication, and understanding of different opinions. By working with other students, they become better prepared for real-life social and academic situations.

    3. Video
    Summarizing the unit.
Each unit ends with a carefully selected video clip that piques student interest and pulls together what they have learned. Video lessons also develop key skills such as prediction, comprehension, and discussion.
    • A wide variety of reading genres in different formats expose and prepare students to understand real-life text they may face in or outside the classroom.
    • Topics, vocabulary, academic skills and integration of critical thinking skills to build students' confidence and prepare them for college courses were shaped by conversations with teachers at over 500 institutions.
    • Task-based, collaborative activities extend each reading and video. Students work together to apply new skills and language in fresh, new scenarios, thus engaging more deeply with the academic content and community.
    • The Online Workbook with one extra reading and additional self-graded activities for each unit, as well as audio and video resources, gives students extra practice and an opportunity to review the videos and listen to reading passages.
